COWICHAN, B.C. - Wednesday was a busy day for the athletes of Team Eastern Door and the North. Starting competition today were the swimmers and badminton, while archery and canoeing wrapped up their competition for the 2008 North American Indigenous Games.

The Midget girls soccer team had an important game against Team Saskatchewan. Both teams sported an identical 2-0-1 record and the top two teams in the midget girls bracket will play for the gold on Saturday. These teams also shared the number one spot with Team British Columbia, who also had a 2-0-1 record.
A win over Team Saskatchewan would ensure the EDN girls a berth into the gold medal match. The girls took an early 1-0 lead, but Saskatchewan tied it up before the end of the first half. Then early in the second half of the game the EDN squad took a 2-1 lead.
It was a good back-and-forth game with both teams playing very well and having their fair shares of scoring opportunities. Late in the game the EDN girls took a penalty and Saskatchewan was awarded a penalty kick. Saskatchewan scored on the kick to tie the game at 2-2.

Then with about a minute left in the game Saskatchewan was again awarded a penalty kick and took the lead 3-2. The EDN team was not able to mount much of a comeback as they ran out of time. Now, Team EDN needs to wait for the results of tomorrow’s game between B.C and the Northwest Territories, to find out if they will be playing for a gold medal or a bronze.
In juvenile lacrosse, Team EDN down Team B.C. 20-3 ensuring them a spot in tomorrow’s gold medal game. In midget lacrosse, Team EDN downed Saskatchewan 17-1 and moved onto the semi-finals in their tournament.

In the first day of competition for the Team EDN swim team - consisting of Á:nen Montour, Ken’nikatsi’tsá:sa Montour, Kwahentén:se Montour, David Phillips and Gabriel Rabbitskin – did very well, pulling in eight more medals for Team Eastern Door and the North.

Ken’nikatsi’tsá:sa won the gold in both the 50m freestyle and the 100m backstroke, while Rabbitskin got the gold in both the 200m individual medley and the 50m breaststroke. Á:nen got a silver in the 50m freestyle and 50 breaststroke, while Phillips won a silver in the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle.

In archery, Karonhiio Currotte and Shakohahiiostha both took home the gold, Owen Stacey got a silver and Ieteronni Beauvais got a bronze.
