Team EDN Shows Best Team Spirit

Spirit of the Games AwardCOWICHAN, B.C. - Throughout the 2008 North American Indigenous Games the athletes of Team Eastern Door and the North showed the utmost respect and sportsmanship both on and off the field. And because of the conduct of its athletes during the week-long event, Team Eastern Door and the North was awarded with the “Spirit of the Games” award at Sunday’s closing ceremonies.

Silver for Bantam Girls Soccer

Bantam Girls SoccerCOWICHAN, B.C. - The Team Kahnawake bantam girls soccer squad won a silver medal at the 2008 North American Indigenous Games after falling 4-1 to Team British Columbia. The girls squad earned their spot in Saturday’s gold medal game by strong play in the preliminary rounds of the tournament, and only falling to B.C. on the first day of competition, 7-1. They were the only team to score on the powerhouse B.C. team.

Juvenile LacrosseCOWICHAN, B.C. - It was a golden performance for the Eastern Door and the North juvenile lacrosse team as it downed Team Ontario to be crowned the 2008 North American Indigenous Games gold medalist. The all-Iroquois final was one of the best lacrosse games at the 2008 games.

Midget Lacrosse Takes Home the Bronze

Midget LacrosseCOWICHAN, B.C. - The Eastern Door and the North’s midget lacrosse team downed Team Manitoba to wrap up the bronze medal today at the North American Indigenous Games. Although it wasn’t the medal they were hoping for it was still a good showing on behalf of the young Mohawk lacrosse players from Kahnawake and Akwesasne.

Midget, Juvenile Lacrosse Teams Down NY

LacrosseCOWICHAN, B.C. - Both Team Eastern Door and the North lacrosse teams had a good showing today (Wednesday, August 6) as they both downed Team New York. The Juvenile squad, which is coached by former National Lacrosse League player Mike Benedict and features Kahnawa’kehró:non Kyle Alfred, Skaron Mayo, Bradley McGowan and Bradley Thomas, took a hard fought 9-7 win over New York.

Wrestlers Win Team Title to Reclaim Todd Diabo Trophy

Athletes ArrivalCOWICHAN, B.C. - It was a day 11 years in the making as the Team Kahnawake wrestling team reclaimed the coveted Todd Diabo Trophy as the best team in the competition. This was the first time that the Kahnawake grapplers have won this trophy since the 1997 North American Indigenous Games, which was held in Victoria, B.C.
